  Latest Development in Corporate Governance
The Centre for Corporate Governance at the London Business School and the European Corporate Governance Institute are organising a conference sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council on Monday, 3 September 2007. The conference will analyse current trends in the corporate governance debate. Attendance at this academic conference is restricted. The registration deadline for eligible delegates is 5 August 2007.   Control Enhancing Mechanisms in Corporate Governance
The Centre for Economic and Business Research, the Copenhagen Business School and the ECGI are organising a free all-day conference in Copenhagen on 18 September 2007 to take stock of the issues of surrounding control enhancing mechanisms and their economic impact at the European level and in international comparison. The conference will use the European Commission's recently published study (see below) as the basis for discussion. See:

  Research newsletter focuses on Effective Boards

The third edition of the ECGI Research Newsletter focuses on the important topic of boards. Some of the themes of the research covered in this newsletter are board structure and the differences between the unitary and two tier models, the dual role of boards as advisors and monitors, and company and board performance in relation to board compensation, gender diversity and the time commitment of independent directors.

  Activist Investors, Hedge Funds and Corporate Governance conference
Organised by the University of Amsterdam and Vanderbilt University, this conference will take place on 8-9 March 2007 at the Hotel Grand, Amsterdam. It will examine the economic and governance effects of private equity and hedge fund strategies in Europe and the United States and there will be a panel discussion on the role of hedge funds and private equity in corporate governance by some of the leading investors, lawyers and regulators in the field.   Contractual Corporate Governance symposium
The University of Sheffield Management School in association with the ECGI and the Journal of Corporate Finance will hold a one-day symposium on Friday 22 June 2007 on the important topic of contractual corporate governance - the ways and means by which individual companies can deviate from their national corporate governance standards by increasing (or reducing) the level of protection they offer to their shareholders and other stakeholders.

ECGI in winning consortium for EU study contract
In a consortium led by Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and alongside Shearman & Sterling LLP, the ECGI has won a contract to study the proportionality between ownership and control in EU listed companies. This study is part of the Commission’s efforts to base any policy initiatives it might wish to take in this area on objective data. See:

Financial Contracting: Theory and Evidence
A conference under the auspices of the European Corporate Governance Training Network and organized by the University of Mannheim, the Journal of Financial Intermediation, the European Corporate Governance Institute, the German National Science Foundation, and the Center for Financial Studies will take place at the University of Mannheim on 20-21 April 2007.
