Research projects
The ECGI encourages comparative empirical research
on corporate governance in Europe. In the past, lack of hard data
has been a major impediment to such research but as disclosure
standards improve, projects that could not be undertaken in the
past have become feasible.
The ECGI will support research by both small and large teams groups
in the manner pioneered by the European Corporate Governance Network
(ECGN).
The ECGN method
ECGN brought together local research teams familiar with the language
and corporate culture of their own country to investigate issues
of common interest. The data collection efforts focus on variables
for which there are common, and high, disclosure standards, such
as those mandated by the European Union in various directives
relating to company law and securities markets.
